About Children's Dentistry in Windsor

Children’s dentistry focuses on the oral health and dental development of infants, children, and teenagers. Regular dental visits help monitor the growth of your child’s teeth and jaw while providing preventive care and guidance to support healthy smiles as they grow.

Your child may benefit from children’s dentistry from the time their first tooth appears or by their first birthday, followed by regular dental visits as recommended by your dentist. Throughout childhood, routine appointments allow your dental team to monitor development, identify concerns early, and provide age-appropriate care based on your child’s individual needs.

If your child is experiencing tooth pain, sensitivity, visible cavities, dental injuries, or changes in their oral health, scheduling a dental examination can help determine the cause and discuss the appropriate treatment options.

Supporting Your Child's Oral Health

Your Child's First Dental Visit

Early visits help children become familiar with the dental environment while allowing your dentist to monitor healthy tooth development.

Healthy Oral Hygiene Habits

Regular dental visits reinforce the importance of brushing, flossing, and healthy eating habits that support long-term oral health.

Cavity Prevention

Children are more susceptible to cavities as their teeth develop. Routine examinations can help identify concerns before they become more significant.

Monitoring Dental Development

As baby teeth are replaced by permanent teeth, your dentist will monitor your child's bite, tooth eruption, and overall oral development.

Dental Injuries

Active children can sometimes experience chipped, cracked, or injured teeth during sports or play. Prompt dental care can help assess the injury and recommend appropriate treatment.

A Positive Dental Experience

Creating a calm and welcoming environment helps children build confidence and develop positive attitudes toward dental care that can last into adulthood.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should my child have their first dental visit?

It is generally recommended that children visit the dentist by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth erupting. Early visits allow your dentist to monitor oral development and provide guidance for caring for your child’s teeth.

Talking positively about the dentist, reading children’s books about dental visits, and explaining what to expect in simple terms can help your child feel more comfortable before their appointment.

When dental X-rays are needed, they are taken using appropriate safety measures and only when they provide important information about your child’s oral health and development.

Many children feel anxious before a dental appointment. Our team takes a gentle, patient-centred approach to help children feel comfortable and build confidence throughout their visit.

Encouraging good brushing and flossing habits, limiting sugary snacks and beverages, and scheduling regular dental visits all play an important role in maintaining your child’s oral health.

Baby teeth help children chew, speak clearly, and guide permanent teeth into their proper positions. Keeping them healthy supports your child’s overall oral development and future oral health.
